by Fco. Javier Zarazaga-Soria

“WE@EU: Water Efficiency in European Urban Areas” is a project of the FP7 ‘Regions of knowledge’ initiative leads by the University of Zaragoza and with the participations of five regions: Aragón (Spain), Provenza-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (France), East of England (United Kingdom), Galilee (Israel) and Malta.
The objective of this project is the coordination of activities and work in R&D&i in the market for efficient use and management of water in urban environments.
The project will establish those aspects in which these regions have a potential (and a reality) that will allow them to be leaders in R&D&i in the field of efficient use and management of water in urban environments. Over this analysis of capabilities, the project will propose action lines for the promotion and public funding of innovation works in this area. The aim is to influence to regional and national governments and to the EU to ensure that it will be possible to continue innovating in those areas in which the regions already have a competitive advantage so they do not lose it, or even increases.
The project includes a contribution from the European Commission over 2 million Euros, will be developed over 3 years and is led by Dr. F. Javier Zarazaga-Soria, Associate Professor at the Universidad de Zaragoza and Associate Director of the Group of Advanced Information Systems from the Engineering Research Instituto de Aragón of the University of Zaragoza.
