The Preliminary Call for Papers in .pdf format. | ![]() |
Contributed papers, proposals for special sessions and tool demonstrations are requested
for the 6th International Workshop on Discrete Event Systems (WODES'02), to be held in Zaragoza, Spain,
on 2-4 October, 2002.
Deadline for special sessions proposals and tutorials: 15 December, 2001. Aims and scope The interdisciplinary field of Discrete Event Systems combines different formalisms, methodologies and tools from control and computer science. The research activity in this field is driven by the needs of many different applications domains: manufacturing, process control, supervisory systems, transportation, software engineering, and so on. DES is now a mature field and many interesting applications have been developed. The Workshop on Discrete Event Systems will be organised for the 6th time in Zaragoza, Spain, following earlier successful meetings in Prague (1992), Antibes (1994), Edinburgh (1996), Cagliari (1998) and Ghent (2000). It aims to provide researchers from different fields (control theoreticians and control engineers, software engineers and computer scientists, operations research specialists) with an opportunity to exchange information and new ideas, and to discuss new developments in the field of DES. Both theory and applications will be discussed. It is envisaged that areas of interaction between different methodologies and tools will be further explored and common applications will be considered with focus on design techniques and implementation for emerging new applications. Topics The Workshop will focus on all topics in the field of Discrete Event Systems analysis and control, including amongst others:
Paper Submission Contributed papers containing original, unpublished research results are solicited for the conference. They should be submitted to the workshop address. Electronic submissions via e-mail are strongly encouraged. Please send a self-contained PostScript file or PDF file to wodes02@posta.unizar.es. Authors who cannot comply with these instructions should send 6 paper copies. Style files and instructions for preparation of camera-ready copy will be available soon from the organizers. Papers must be in English. The length of the paper cannot exceed 20 double-spaced pages (font size 11). The final version of papers should be in such a form that it can be immediately included in the proceedings without major revisions. The title page must contain a short abstract and a classification of the topics covered, preferably using the list of topics above. The paper must clearly state the problem being addressed, the goal of the work, the results achieved, and the relation to other work. Submissions received too late and submissions sent by fax will not be accepted. Papers will be reviewed by the program committee and by external reviewers. Full versions of the accepted contributions will appear in the Proceedings of the Workshop. These Proceedings will be published prior to the workshop. Session Proposals Proposals for contributed sessions concerning topics of special interest for the DES community are also being solicited. Each session should contain between 4 and 6 papers. Papers belonging to one contributed session will be individually reviewed. Sessions organisers should send a proposal containing a general title, and topics definition and the set of the envisaged papers providing for each one title, authors and a short abstract (10-20 lines) Tutorials The conference takes place Wednesday to Friday. However, the preceding Tuesday introductory and advanced Tutorials will be offered to participants. A detailed description of the tutorials will be available via the conference Web pages by December, 2001. Finally, it will be possible to arrange meetings for different groups, e.g., participants in international DES projects. It will also be possible to arrange small educational courses, e.g., with respect to some of the DES topics or tools. Submissions for such activities must contain a 2-5 page description. They must be received by Manuel Silva before December 15, 2001. Tools for DES As part of the conference, there will be an Exhibition of Computer Tools for DES together with a limited number of tool presentations, i.e., talks about tools. Important dates
All submissions must be sent to the address below.
