AUTHOR GUIDELINES FOR 8.5 x 11-INCH PROCEEDINGS MANUSCRIPTS - WODES 2002 Congratulations on the acceptance of your paper for publication. Please follow the steps outlined below when submitting your final paper to the IEEE Computer Society Press: (1) ALL MANUSCRIPTS MUST BE IN ENGLISH. (2) COLUMNS. The paper title and author name(s) and affiliation(s) should be centered in one-column format. Your abstract and the remainder of the paper should be in two-column format. Figures or tables may span both columns, if necessary. If the last page is not filled, please divide the data into two equal columns. Columns in the two-column format are to be 3-1/4 inches wide (8.3 cm), with a 3/8-inch (0.8 cm) space between columns, for a total print area width of 6-7/8 inches (17.5 cm). The length of the print area of any page must not exceed 8-7/8 inches (22.5 cm). (3) MARGINS. Top and bottom margins should be 1-1/16 inch (2.5 cm). Left and right margins should be 13/16 inches (2.1 cm). PLEASE NOTE: The above measurements are not precise, and minor variations from these measurements are acceptable. (4) TITLE. The main title should be 14-point boldface Times or Times Roman, centered over both columns, followed by two blank 12-point lines. In the main title, initially capitalize nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs; do not capitalize articles, coordinate conjunctions, and prepositions (unless the title begins with such a word). (5) AUTHOR NAME(S)/AFFILIATION(S). The author name(s) and affiliation(s) should be 12-point non-boldface Times or Times Roman, centered below the title, followed by two blank 12-point lines. (6) ABSTRACT. The abstract heading is to be 11-point boldface, initially capitalized, and centered within the column. The abstract should be 10-point italicized Times or Times Roman, and may be up to 150 words. Leave two blank lines between the abstract and the heading of your first section. PLEASE NOTE: An electronic copy of your abstract must be submitted via e-mail to the address indicated in the author kit. Your electronic abstract should be in ASCII text format within the body of your e-mail (not as an attachment) and should include the conference name, paper title, keywords, author name(s), address(es), and affiliation(s). (7) TEXT - STYLE, SIZE, AND SPACING. Normal text is to be single spaced 10-point Times or Times Roman. The first line of each paragraph is to be indented approximately ¼ inch (0.5 cm), and the entire text is to be fully justified--that is, flush left and flush right. Do not place additional line spacing between paragraphs. (8) HEADINGS FIRST-ORDER HEADINGS. First-order headings (for example, 1: Introduction) are to be 12-point boldface Times or Times Roman, flush left, with one blank line before, and one blank line after. SECOND-ORDER HEADINGS. Second-order headings (for example, 1.1: Database elements) are to be 11-point boldface Times or Times Roman, flush left, with one blank line before, and one blank line after. THIRD-ORDER HEADINGS. If you require a third-order heading (we discourage it), then it is to be 10-point boldface Times or Times Roman, preceded by one blank line, and followed by a period and normal text on same line. (9) FIGURES AND TABLES. Figures and tables may fit across both columns, if necessary. (10) CAPTIONS. Figure and table captions should be 10-point boldface Helvetica, centered below the figure or table. (11) COLOR. Although you may submit a file with color images, your paper will be printed in black and white unless you are specifically informed otherwise. Please consider this when creating graphs, charts, etc. (Note: Files submitted with color images will appear in color in the online version of the proceedings.) (12) FOOTNOTES. Place footnotes at the bottom of the column in which they are referenced (not full width across two columns). Use single-spaced 8-point Times or Times Roman. To help readers, avoid footnotes altogether and include necessary peripheral observations in your text (within parentheses, if you prefer, as in this sentence). (13) REFERENCES. List and number all bibliographical references at the end of your paper in single-spaced 9-point Times or Times Roman. When citing within the text, enclose the citation number in square brackets (for example, [1]). (14) COPYRIGHT FORMS. You must fax your signed IEEE copyright release form to 714-761-1784 when you submit your finished paper. We must have this form by the paper deadline, or your paper will not be published in the proceedings. (15) QUESTIONS. Questions not answered in these guidelines may be directed to your IEEE Computer Society Press production editor at: Phone (714) 821-8380, or Fax (714) 761-1784. THE COPYRIGHT RELEASE FORM FOLLOWS. PLEASE PRINT IT OUT, SIGN IT, AND RETURN IT WITH YOUR PAPER. ========================CUT HERE======================== (Attn: Denise Williams - WODES 2002) IEEE COPYRIGHT TRANSFER & EXPORT CONTROL COMPLIANCE FORM To insure uniformity of treatment among all contributors, other forms may not be substituted for this form, nor may any wording of the form be changed.
